Course Aims:

This course is designed for all personnel involved in patient care, who seek to develop the skill necessary to undertake the handling of patients safely for themselves and for the patient.

 

Course Outline:

  • The facts about back pain
  • Ergonomics & Kinetics
  • The mechanics of the spine and the muscular system
  • Posture
  • Levers and forces
  • Principles of safe lifting
  • Minimizing risk
  • Relevant Legislation

 

Course Objectives:

  • The participant will value the consequences of incorrect lifting
  • To provide the knowledge of the mechanics of the spine and muscular system
  • The participant will have the skills to undertake  safe lifting in any scenario
  • The participant will understand the regulations pertaining to Health & Safety in the workplace

 

Who should attend:

Personnel working in hospitals, nursing homes, care homes and other locations where patient care and lifting is undertaken.

 

Certification:  

A Hibernian Healthcare certificate valid for 2 years will be issued on successful completion.
